Is it to squirrely? Does it not seem smooth rail to rail? You can fix any of these problems with the right Quad Rears and this article is for you. However, if you want to know more about Futures Fins Quad Fin Sets in general you might want to refer to one of my previous articles first. Link Below.

Now, if you have a Futures Fins Quad Fin Set and things just don't seem right there's a few things we need to discuss and first up is foil. Futures Fins makes their Quad Rears with several different foils; Flat Foil, 80/20 Foil and Symmetrical Foil, also known as 50/50 Foil. When we're talking about Quad Rear Foil we're talking about the inside of the two Rear Fins. Flat Foil Rears have a "Flat" inside, 80/20 have 80% of the Fins curve on the outside and 20% on the inside, 50/50 Foil is as you might have guessed, 50% of the curve on each side of the fin. These three foils types feel very different and because there's no "center" pivot point on a Quad, so changing the foil on your Quad Rears can have a pretty significant effect on your surfboard(s).
When we're talking about Futures Fins Quad Rears, Flat Foiled Quad Rears are going to feel a bit more "snappy". You'll like them for in the pocket surfing and quick directional changes, probably best for a punchy beach break. 80/20 Foiled Rears will give you a bit more control through your turns and won't "release" quite as well, good for open faces, think point break. 50/50 Quad Rears are great for "rail to rail" surfing and will work best on boards with the fin boxes set closer to the stringer. All of this needs to be taken in while keeping both your front fins and what you're looking to ultimately get out of your surfboard in mind.
Size is also extremely important when thinking about what Futures Fins Quad Rears you're going to be using. Is it heavy? Are you a "bigger" surfer? Simple, USE BIGGER REARS. Again, without that clear pivot point on the back of your board in the form of a true center fin found on your thruster, you're relying on a much smaller fin when on rail, if you're "sliding out", get yourself some bigger rears. If your surfboard feels sluggish when trying to gain speed, that's almost exclusively because your Quad Rears are to big. Remember, there's two fins back there, "pumping" to gather speed is going to be more difficult, almost impossible if the Futures Fins Rear Fins on your Quad are to big.
On one last note, Futures Fins makes a set of Generation HS 4.20 Quad Rears, with a custom foil. This is a very interesting set of Quad Rears because it's the largest size Futures Fins Makes in an 80/20 Foil, BUT the fins "cant" out slightly at the tips. This allows a large surfer a set of Rears that have hold, but surf like much smaller fins. A smaller surfer might also find these rears fit their style of surfing because they would give you hold for large waves, while still releasing off the top when necessary.
At The Surfboard Warehouse, we've also partnered with the Finatic Fin Testing Program as a way to offer you a solution when it comes to trying Futures Fins before you buy them.
